Its not a matter if …
Its not a matter if you need it or not, nobody “needs” anything unless if it was for a matter of survival. If people don’t need it, then what is it? People WANT it. Sony has obviously done some research and study into what could be done to enhance the PSP experience, and Skype turned out to be one of the answers. So your question is basically absurd. Its like asking: Why does a phone have Music functionality when you have an MP3 player? Because people WANT IT.
