How do you hack a psp to play downloaded games?
I have a psp with that just updated to 5.03 and there are no easy to understand tutorials after a quick look. They simply dont make sense.
It doesnt have any mods or anything on it and all the tutorials i could find were updating from one custom firmware to the next.
Any help?
To downgrade your PSP to custom firmware you must…
1)First format your memory stick (Whether your PSP is a slim or a fat). [Warning: Formatting your Memory stick will delete EVERYTHING on the Memory stick. I recommend that you backup all of your files by copying them to your computer. You can put everything back later]
a.To format your memory stick, just plug your PSP into the computer using the USB cable.
b.Click “My Computer”
c.Right-click your PSP. (On the computer, you will see it as a “removable disk”. On my computer, it’s called ‘Removable Disk (H:)’ However, yours may be different)
d.Scroll down and click format…
e.Make sure you select : File system: FAT32
f.Click Format.
2)Now your memory stick should be cleared of all its files.
a.Keeping your PSP plugged into the computer, Click my Computer.
b.Open to your PSP. (Now you should see nothing, since you formatted it.)
c.Now, create a new folder and name it “PSP”. [Without the quotes and all capital letters]
d.Now double click PSP and create a new folder inside of PSP. Name it “GAME” [Without the quote and all capital letters. It is “GAME”. Do not name it “GAMES”. There is no “S”.]
e.Now download this file:

To extract this file, you will need a program like “WinRAR”. If you don’t already have it, download it from

f.Now once you downloaded it, Extract the folder onto the desktop. The folder is called PAN3XX_R3.
g.Once you have the folder, move this folder into the “GAME” Folder you created a few minutes ago.

i.Now place all of these files into the “root of your PSP”. That just means to place all the files into your PSP. Do not put them into the PSP file. Do not put them into the GAME folder. Just put them into the PSP.
j.Now, disconnect your PSP from the computer.
k. Go into the GAMES underneath the PSP menu and click memory stick. You should see a program called PANDORA INSTALLER
l.Launch the program
m. Ignore all the weird messages and just find your way to the main menu.
n.Go down to “Install a DDCv7 MagicStick (For Fat + Slim) and click it
o.After it finishes installing, go back to the main menu and go down to battery options.
p.Click it and chose to “make battery Pandora”
q.After that is complete you can quit.
r.VOW-LAH! You have a magic memory stick and a Pandora battery.
s.Now, take out the battery from the back of your PSP.
t.While holding down the “Down-arrow button”, carefully put the Battery back into the PSP.
u.Once the PSP turns on, you should be on a screen where you can downgrade your PSP.
v.Install 4.01 M33 Firmware.
w.Now you have custom firmware. Congrats.

well if you hack your psp, there is a big risk that you will corrupt it. But if it is like a game demo just go to the playstation network on your psp. If it is a full game off of the internet it is most likely illegal .

The first thing you need to know is "IS YOUR PSP EVEN HACKABLE?"
1. This part is easy. Check the bottom of your PSP. If your PSP is a PSP-1000 or the PSP FAT as most call it then your okay since all PSP-1000's are hackable. If you have a PSP-3000 or the newest version of the PSP then your screwed because currently noone has figured out that pesky ipl encryption. If your PSP is a PSP-2000 then it might be hackable.
To sum it up:
PSP-1000: Hackable YAY!!!!!!!
PSP-2000: Maybe
PSP-3000: Not Hackable as of now
2. If your PSP is a PSP-2000 you have to first figure out if it's hackable. There are several ways you can do this. I assume you're new to the PSP homebrew community so I'm just gonna stick to the easy ones.
I assume you know how to check your firmware version. Now try to remember what firmware your PSP came with out of the box when you bought it. If it came 4.01, 4.05 or higher then unfortunately there's a good chance your PSP has a TA-88 v3 motherboard.
This motherboard seems to have the same ipl encryption as the PSP-3000 so it can't be hacked as of this moment.

If your PSP is infact Hackable, follow the following steps to setup a Pandora Memory Stick and Battery combo. First, start gathering some of the stuff your gonna need.
1. PSP with Custom Firmware (preferably a PSP-1000). Try to find a friend who has one.
2. Original Memory Stick (4GB or less. IMPORTANT)
3. An old PSP-1000 Battery
4. A computer DUH!
Note: A PSP-1000 is preferred because all PSP-1000's are capable of converting a Battery to a Pandora Battery which is crucial for this process. Only the earliest PSP-2000's are capable of this since Battery EEPROM write access was disabled in the later models.
Only Old PSP-1000 batteries can be converted.

b. Memory Stick and Battery Modification:
After downloading UPT, extract the contents to the root of the memory stick you wish to modify. Then download the following updates from the UPDATE EBOOTS link and save then at the root of the memory stick.:
150.PBP
340.PBP
371.PBP
380.PBP
390.PBP
401.PBP
Be sure to follow the naming format above.
After this, run the program using the PSP you borrowed.
Follow the onscreen instructions. Note that in step 2 you are given a choice to backup the battery eeprom before modification. This is important because this backup will be needed to convert the battery back to a normal one after you're done.
You should now have a Pandora MMS and Battery.
c. Usage:
Put the memory stick into your PSP then put in modified battery. Your PSP should now boot from your MMS. If it doesn't try again but this time, try holding L trigger before putting in the battery. Choose whatever despertar version and install.
You should now have a modified PSP.

UPDATING TO LATEST VERSION:
Download 5.00 M33-6. Extract and save the "update" folder in the "ms0:/PSP/GAME" directory of the PSP. download the 5.00 update file from the UPDATES link above. rename the file as 500.pbp then copy it to the "update" folder.
Run the application to update to the latest Custom Firmware from Dark-Alex.
