There's almost no reason to ever remove it. When you connect the PSP to the computer, you need to select "USB connection" on the PSP, then windows will see the PSP as a removeable storage device. You'll want to "open window to view files" and from there, can drag and drop files from the PSP to the computer, and vice-versa, just like a USB pen drive. Be sure you know what you're doing - certain things should only go in certain places, in order to be recognized by the PSP during normal use. If you don't know what it does, best leave it there.
