Is the Nintendo DS basically a portable version of the Nintendo Wii?
Are the games similar?
For instance, if I get Ninja Gaiden for the DS, will it be the same game as the Nintendo Wii, or will it be a totally different game?
No. The two are entirely different systems. They do share a few titles, but for the most part, they’re independent of each other. Even Mario Kart on the DS varies from its Wii version.

No. they are nothing like each other. For one the wii uses a remote and the ds uses an stylus and buttons on the console. Because of this the games are completely different. For example, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. On the wii you have a lot of games that require you to move around a bit but on the ds they don’t have to do that so they can have a wider variety of sports
