Yes
There are parts of planes that pilots can not see eg fuel leaks, which engine is out, flaps not deployed or damaged, wheels not down etc
Cameras would save lives at little cost.
In the cockpit?
Pilots do not want to be seen asleep or on their laptops!
References :
Potentially a good idea, but one that could be misused. Pilots will resist it tooth and nail. The problem is that video does indeed show you exactly what's happening, but some people don't want anyone to know that. And video showing relatively minor incidents could be blown up into major incidents by whoever sees or controls the video, which could be harmful to crew and passengers alike.
References :
I agree that 2 hours on the CVR is plenty. And cameras in the cabin is a bit ridiculous. I think a passenger would find a way to sue the airline for invasion of privacy if there were cameras there. Passengers would be hesitant to fly and probably put their coats over it anyway. If the cameras were on the ceiling, passengers would have fun seeing what they could throw up there that would stick.

It wouldn't fly.
References :
I think it is a great idea. I would have another place to hang my hat!

Would you really want big brother to be watching you on your every move. How about you crash and die, would your wife and children want to be subjected to seeing your final seconds.

BAD IDEA.

I don't even like the 2 hour CVR. If they had crashed and killed everyone, there would be plenty of CVR to know what was going on. As it is, no one even got a hang nail, a little wiggle room is OK.
References :
you do realize there is already a CVR (cockpit voice recorder) on all commerical airliners, right? basically the same principal.
References :
pilot

We have enough of Big Brother watching us now. We do not need cameras in the cabins or cockpits of airplanes.
References :
30 years in business
Firm belief in freedom

What exists is really good enough. As a passenger, you'd be paying for them in the long run with higher ticket prices and then paying for the cokes and peanuts later on.
References :
Some cockpits already have them but its hard to imagine a situation in which they would be very helpful. I think its another idea that sounds great to the general public but makes little sense in actual aviation.
