The great thing about Canon camera’s is that the white balance is made from a reference image. The best thing to do is to obtain a reference image at a slight angle to a mirror before hand. There are other methods like using a white wall, but the mirror works the best. A wall may throw the balance off.

Correct whitebalance is not achieved with a plain white paper, but instead a 15% gray hue.
It’s easy to obtain though, places specifically paint stores carry 15% gray cards for under 3 dollars sometimes for one dollar.

Or you can use a sheet of white paper, fill the frame with it and put out of focus. Then do the rest of the explanation. That´s a cheap solution. Still this expodisk is a good choise for the snob photographer.
