ANNOTATED - Toronto Cyclist Sheppard Killed - Bryant on security cameras

press HQ for High Quality! NEW FOOTAGE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFISP_PrhFo This video has annotations. Video without pop-up annotations is at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExWyf3NzdMI.

This is security camera footage edited in the time sequence according to eyewitness accounts from August 31, 2009 9:45pm http://www.theglobeandmail.com/video/witnesses-describe-what-they-saw/article1271559/ There may be gaps of time between the available footage.

Security camera shows Bryant repeatedly approaching Sheppard with his car and seemingly running the bike down, throwing Sheppard over the hood. (Bloor, west of Bay)

Car backs away from a bike and man getting up from the ground. The car accelerates away, driving past the man who runs down the street after/beside the car as it passes him. The bike is left behind.

Car speeds down the street on the wrong side.

Bryant leaves the scene of the cyclist’s death and is apprehended, apparently 1hr 45 minutes later. Questions remain about the intervening time. His second phone call after the accident was to the PR firm Navigator: www.navltd.com

I offer my personal respects and condolences to the families and loved ones of both Mr. Bryant and Mr. Sheppard whose lives have been affected by the brutality of this incident.

*** This footage is unaltered except: re-sizing / cropping to fit, brightness contrast adjustment for clarity, cuts between camera angles, and unavoidable artifacts from the video compression algorithms used on the source footages and youtube publishing.

The soundtrack is “Hit & Run” by “Dragonfly” from the album “Blind”, now known as “The Singhs” I am ever grateful for this beautiful and apropos song which has helped soothe me while editing this brutal footage. It is attached for entertainment purposes only.

*** Annotations are to point out details mentioned in news stories and from people familiar with the location. Interpretations of the video footage should be taken as description of an opinion and not fact.

    Seemingly, Bryant …
Seemingly, Bryant cooked his own goose!

I’d try and make him look “good”, but how exactly would I do that, given that he killed a man with his gas pedal?

I guess I could have ignored the footage in sequence as the media has… No wonder they didn’t want to touch these details with a 10 ft pole. But that would make me complicit in the cover-up of a wrongful death..

    @MeaghanEdwards

The video is proof, for sure but the interpretation is significantly biased.

Regardless of how I feel about it (being a cyclist, i’m interested in safety for the most part) I wan’t justice not a roasting.

  3. jfbp Says:

    That is exactly my …
That is exactly my point, you annotations look like spin to me.

I didn’t say the “video was biased” I said your annotations were, right from the very first one (are you claiming they are not, but you don’t have a point to make? right…).

The darn comments here are too short to actually list all the evidence I can see just in time index 0.06 to 0.08. This is obviously captured by video camera from a TV, it would be nice to get our hands on the actually footage.

    Quantify your …
Quantify your objections with facts and observations, not made up BS, your posts read like PR.

The video itself is what came out of the security cameras, how can that be biased?

    - The opening scene on a T-shirt stating how many people perceive the facts of the incident. That’s their bias, I’m mirroring that questions exists.

    - “Nearby, A funny place to park?” Is the only bias I can see.

    Eyewitness accounts match the vids.

You can make a personal attack, but you’ve got no facts at all.

    ‘Bryant is just as …
‘Bryant is just as much of an aggressor moments later when he tries to force a passage past Sheppard (hitting the back tire)”

Force a passage PAST? Don’t you mean through? There is a difference. A huge difference. Using a car to force a passage through is called ramming - not passing.

As IslamAnswersBack stated : that was a total run over.

That’s why many believe Bryant is a murderer.

  7. jfbp Says:

    Too bad this video …
Too bad this video has such obvious bias, it would have been very interesting if I didn’t immediately start to question the author because of it.

    That’s “male cow …
That’s “male cow faecal matter”. You can see right in the video Sheppard smacking the car while passing outside the lane (contrary to traffic laws and not annotated unfortunately; bias?) then he pulls in front of the car and the two men clearly have some sort of exchange.

Looks to me as if Sheppard is the aggressor first, however Bryant is just as much of an aggressor moments later when he tries to force a passage past Sheppard (hitting the back tire).

A fundraiser will be held Sat, Sept 26 2009 at Sneaky Dee’s 431 College Street (College and Bathurst) Doors 9pm $10.00 or pay what you can

    OMG. Nice job …
OMG. Nice job cleaning it up. I thought he was flipping Bryant the bird. He isn’t. He is riding within the confines of the law and seems to be fully in control of his bike.

  13. honestedits Says:

    That is the frame …
That is the frame of the video monitor playing back the footage. The cameraman works to keep the action centered in the shot. I was going to motion track it to make it steady, but a guy can only do so much.

  14. phillydisco Says:

    I’ve been showing …
I’ve been showing other people too. It makes a huge difference, because the media has been brainwashing people to believe this was justifiable homicide (i.e. self defense). Well, you kill someone, whether it was justifiable, that means you should be charged with homicide. If the police feel Bryant was defending himself and his wife, then it means he should be charged with murder, not reckless driving. People are shocked when they see what happened, instead of the Sheppard attack ads in media

  15. liberalrefugee Says:

    The new video is …
The new video is very ing. Yesterday I had to continually stop and point out things to those I showed the video to. Today I showed the new video to others and they saw it and understood it immediately.

  16. phillydisco Says:

    I’ll check it out. …
I’ll check it out. The upper half of that second clip looks like it was blocked out rather than it was out of range of the camera. Do you know if it was ‘censored’?

  17. honestedits Says:

    I agree, I did not …
I agree, I did not have that footage when I cut this video. I got the “Improved Video” from another source. There is a hotlink in that clip to the more complete footage.

  18. phillydisco Says:

    I don’t think this …
I don’t think this video is as ing as the one where you enhanced those first two clips and strung them together, because the second clip, shot from behind, shows the car is moving fairly quickly and literally pushed Sheppard to the pavement. In this video, you only see the clip start from when the car is backing up. I will write more of what I think we’re seeing in the two clips in that enhanced video’s comments.

I believe Michael Bryant is intoxicated with the Prescription drug called PAXIL, an anti-depressant known to make its users commit homicides. Bryant’s behavior is corresponds to that of a murderous PAXIL user. He deserves life in jail with no parole possibilities.

  23. liberalrefugee Says:

    One sided? It’s …
One sided? It’s surveillance video. I have sent the cleaned up link to some cyclist friends and they say Mr. Sheppard displayed skill and excellent roadmanship as he moved his fast moving bike into the lane of stationary traffic. They said Sheppard doesn’t handle his bike like someone who is inebriated. They did ask about Bryant though and I said that there was no indication that Bryant was intoxicated as no tests were done.

  24. liberalrefugee Says:

    You spin me right …
You spin me right round baby right round like a record baby round round. We can learn a thing from Blackwater, I mean Navigator Ltd. “Stay on message”. Bryant was the aggressor. Bryant was the instigator. Bryant set all the events in motion when he rammed Sheppard. Most importantly of all - the PR won’t be in the court room and the first 30 seconds of tape will be ing.
